Garou vs Kazuya

Garou VS Kazuya Mishima (One Punch Man vs Tekken)

(by Spirit)

(by Trexgamer)

I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once,

but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” - Bruce Lee

Garou, One Punch Man’s very own Human Monster.

Kazuya Mishima, The Mishima Family Patriarch and King of the Iron Fist of Tekken.

To be a Martial Artist is to be better, to be better,

you need to be the strongest, to be the strongest,

you need power. And when it comes to power,

these two are second to none! But what if power doesn’t

just mean to be strong, but to also have a form

that strikes fear into the gods themselves. And that is

just what these two do. And we will see who will

prevail in a battle between the Devilish King of Iron or

the Monstrous Hero Hunter!

Before we begin

We're not using Cosmic Garou due to it being incredibly

non-standard (it is a LITERAL Deus Ex Machina)

and will also make the debate pointless due to him

statstomping Kazuya horrifically.  However, we are using the anime,

manga, webcomic and the One Punch Man mobile game for Garou.

Also massive spoilers for Tekken 8’s story mode

so if you haven’t got Tekken 8 and haven’t seen the

story mode and want to, we highly recommend skipping this blog.

Background

Garou

(by cabbage)

“What is ‘evil’? What is justice? All those pretty words mean that I should go die because the majority wants me dead! This is absurd! They can all go to hell!”

In a world full of heroes, everyone roots for them. Everybody loves them, but nobody ever rooted for the bad guys. They had goals, motivations, and loved ones too. But whenever they lost, nobody mourned or got sad for them, minus one kid, who was bullied, hit and made fun of for rooting for the villains. But later in life this child would soon grow up to be one of the biggest threats to mankind ever, he’d become a self proclaimed “Hero Hunter” and take down heroes from the nobodies in the lower ranks to the higher ups in A and S Rank, and the mere mention of his title would strike fear into people from across the globe, but who is he? Who is this “Human Monster”, who is Garou?

After wandering on his own for ages, he eventually stumbled upon a dojo where he’d become a disciple of the S Ranked Hero, Bang, Garou was taught by the single greatest martial artist to ever breathe to kick all sorts of ass and take all sorts of names. He’d become Bang’s #1 student and trained alongside Bang’s other disciple, Sour Face, who Garou would prove and make sure that he was superior too. But one day, Garou realized that he had nothing left to learn, he realized that he simply grew too strong for the rest of the weaklings Bang called “disciples' ', so he destroyed the dojo. He trashed the place, disabling and badly harming several other students, including Sour Face. All seemed lost until Bang beat Garou’s shit in and expelled him from the dojo, leaving Garou alone yet again. That was until he entered a Tournament known as “Super Fight” after taking over the alias “Wolfman” from the actual Wolfman, and Garou won the tournament, yet his identity was still unknown.

But then Garou made an appearance at the Hero Association’s HQ while they were having a meeting, not only telling all the heroes that he sympathized with the monsters, but he’d also beat every person in the room, even if they ganged up on him. And so he kept his promise, by beating every hero at the meeting relentlessly, including some A Tier heroes who were bordering on becoming S Tiers. He then stormed out of the HQ, vowing that within 6 months, his training will be over and he’ll return here to finish the job. Hoping he’ll get to clash blows with the S Ranked Hero (and gamer), King. He’d then go out and beat up the likes of Tanktop Master, Tanktop Vegetarian, Mumen Rider and Golden Ball.

But then, he just so happened to come across some random ass bald guy, who KO’d his ass with a single bop to the nape like any good Attack on Titan fan would do. Garou would then retreat and lick his wounds, even after getting his ass handed to him by the heroes, Metal Bat and Watchdog Man, Garou would then be hunted down, and battle against Stinger, Death Gatling, Gun Gun, Smile Man, Wild Horn, Shooter and Chain’n’Toad, he defeated Every. Single. One. Then he got jumped…again (Garou vs Mahito when?). This time, it was by the cyborg Genos, after they briefly clashed, monsters proceeded to attack them, one of the monsters told Garou that they’d like him to join them…only for Garou to tell the monster to piss off. Then Garou got jumped yet again by none other than Bang and Bomb…who just proceeded to beat the ever living hell outta Garou, berating him.

It appeared as if the Hero Hunter would be down for the count, but suddenly, Phoenix Man appeared, creating a massive wave of fire and then grabbed Garou, telling Elder Centipede to cover them, and he got the hell outta dodge, with Garou still in his clutches. Garou was not happy whatsoever, demanding to be released to little to no avail.

Then, he arrived at the Monster Association, and was promoted to one of its executive members by their leader, Orochi, on one condition - he would kill a hero in a day without hesitation, to prove he was a true monster. However, unbeknownst to Garou himself, he was being tailed by a couple of monsters to prove this, and after they saw him protecting a little kid from some bullies and getting one-punched by Saitama… again… he got jumped AGAIN by the two monsters, before losing after they distracted him by taking Tareo. After recovering, he came to the Monster Association HQ, and obtained his next evolution in the process, his Half Monster form. Easily defeating the two who posed a threat to him before, eventually getting in a fight with Orochi himself after being jumped by a few monsters (can this man catch a break?) before ultimately losing again. After waking up (why has no one killed this man with how many times he’s been knocked out?), he easily defeated Puri-Puri Prisoner, before getting in a fight with the hero Superalloy Darkshine.

After a long and arduous battle, Garou broke his limiters yet again, with his overwhelming adaptation ultimately prevailing over the hero, before ultimately evolving into his true monster form after having an epiphany - he needed to be the ultimate evil to unite everyone, to counter the failings of the current hero society, as he turned into Monster Garou.

Awakening into his great power caused him to fall unconscious, before waking up and jumping Fubuki and Bomb, ultimately defeating Bomb, all while mentally unconscious. Then he was confronted by his former master, Bang yet again, and after a long battle where he was damaged severely by his former master (and also woke up), he ultimately emerged victorious yet again, and then defeated Fuhrer Ugly who tried to kill Bang.

Soon after this, he was attacked by Flashy Flash and then Platinum Sperm, both of them wanting to defeat each other for their own reasons - ultimately, Flashy Flash was defeated by Platinum Sperm, while Garou impaled him, causing him to explode to bits. He was then confronted by Sage Centipede and Evil Ocean Water (CAN THIS MAN STOP GETTING JUMPED), before teaming up with Metal Bat, of all people, to defeat the two, ultimately putting an end to Sage Centipede once and for all, before bumping into a certain Caped Baldy. After the two got in a fight, Garou realized Saitama was his greatest obstacle to becoming the ultimate evil, and despite evolving again, couldn’t match the hero’s power, until God gave him a deus ex machina powerup to do that! After killing Genos and a ton of other people and destroying most of the universe, he realized how much God’s power had corrupted him and taught Saitama time travel in order to go back and prevent any of this from happening.

After Saitama time-traveled back to stop him, Garou lost the power of God, wondering why in that moment he lost it all, he attempted to attack the heroes to end himself. However, he was stopped by his former master, who once again took him in, seeking to give him another chance and to become better than he was, to become his successor and a hero. Would the Hero Hunter rises to the task, or ends up falling back into becoming the world’s greatest threat to unite it, remains to be seen.

Kazuya

(by cabbage)

“Fighting is all about who’s left standing and nothing else.”

The world we live in is one where many fight to survive. To stay on the top. With the rise we live in, a famous corporation called the Mishima Zaibatsu is hosting a martial arts tournament - the King of Iron Fist Tournament. A tournament with a huge prize pool for whoever wins, as well as the title of the world’s King of Iron Fist. Many faces entered - whether it be the wrestler known as King, the legendary robin hood ninja Yoshimitsu, famed assassin Nina Williams, and many more. However, of these fighters, one of them would change the world, in a way no one would realize…

Kazuya Mishima was an ordinary kid, once. Born to Heihachi Mishima, owner of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and Kazumi Mishima, his life was nice, living at the Mishima Estate in Japan. Doted on by both his mother and his grandfather, Jinpachi, who taught him the Mishima fighting style, everything seemed to be going well… however, that all would change when he turned 5. His grandfather disappeared completely, and his mother was murdered - by his own father, as a matter of fact. Kazuya took matters into his own hands after finding this out, and attacked his father - a fight he lost (he was a 5 year old attacking a trained martial artist, what did you expect), he was tossed off a cliff towards his seeming doom. That should have been where his story ended… but despite his young age, Kazuya survived as Mishima that he is. He had inherited the Devil Gene from his mother - a supernatural power born from the being known as Azazel that would give him and everyone with it unnatural power, but at the cost of their sanity and humanity. A path Kazuya would walk down, regardless.

From here, Kazuya climbed back up the cliff, and Heihachi raised him and taught him within the ways of the Mishima Karate Style, along with an adoptive brother named Lee, who Heihachi had adopted specifically to be a rival to Kazuya himself. However, Kazuya had far greater ambitions than merely inheriting his father’s fortune, which he likely could have had he stayed where he was - his ambitions were far, far higher than that. As he stood as the victor of the first King of Iron Fist Tournament, he enacted revenge on his father for tossing him off the cliff to his death so many years ago by doing the same to him, leaving himself as the owner of the Mishima Zaibatsu, with which Kazuya used to enact far worse crimes than even his father had for the two years he was in charge, creating a private military force with eyes on controlling the whole world. However, when he decided to host a second King of Iron Fist tournament, he met an odd woman - Jun Kazama, who along with a mysterious being in Kazuya’s head opposed to the Devil within, Angel, wanted to save him from that influence. The two had a child together, one Kazuya would not meet at this time however, as he was met in the final round of his tournament with his very own father, Heihachi, who he thought he’d killed two years ago, this time ending up with a defeat. The influence of Jun and Angel ultimately proved Kazuya’s undoing, clouding his judgment and letting Heihachi beat him, before he tossed Kazuya into a volcano, seemingly the undoing of the King of Iron Fist…

…At that point you probably should already understand how Mishimas are hard to kill.

Another corporation, the G Corporation, found Kazuya’s body after he fell into the volcano, (a very burnt one, but at least better than Anakin’s somehow) and restored him to life, with him agreeing to lay low as a test subject for their experiments to increase his power further - he needed to be strong enough to crush Heihachi, once and for all.

Twenty long years later, the fourth King of Iron Fist tournament had begun. Kazuya was an entrant, despite knowing it was a trap set by Heihachi to lure him into the open, and he was set to fight his very own son, Jin Kazama in the semi-finals. However, Heihachi along with his Tekken Force (yes, that’s the name of the military part of the Mishima Zaibatsu.) had kidnapped him ahead of time. After Kazuya lost AGAIN to Heihachi, Heihachi took him to where Jin was being held prisoner, where the Devil within Kazuya awakened, seeking to take Jin’s Devil power for itself. However, Kazuya was able to take control of the Devil power within himself at this moment, silencing the devil within for good, being able to turn into Devil Kazuya from this point onwards. But even with this power, he got his ass kicked by Jin, who then beat Heihachi and ran off, while the two were ambushed by JACK-4 robots, with them ultimately ending the fight with Kazuya throwing Heihachi into a group of JACKs, causing an explosion that unearthed Jinpachi.

From this point, the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament was not Kazuya’s concern - it was who had attempted to kill him. He learned from Raven after beating the information out of him that it was the G Corporation itself which had attempted to kill him, believing he had outlived his usefulness and as such, would be better off dead. As a result of this,  Kazuya killed the executives responsible and took control of the G Corporation for himself, just as his son took control of the Mishima Zaibatsu after defeating Jinpachi in the same fifth King of Iron Fist tournament. What Kazuya managed to use for his favor later, as his son declared war on the whole world soon after, with Kazuya “heroically” declaring war on Jin as G Corporation, being one of the few people in a position to do so, with him tracking Jin to the Middle East after finding a pool of Devil Gene power there - namely, the originator of said power, Azazel.

It didn’t last too long though, as after meeting his half brother, Lars, he decided to retreat to gather his power in Japan. Jin ultimately disappeared soon after this point, leaving Kazuya victorious in the war - that is, until Heihachi returned, taking control over the Mishima Zaibatsu once more to battle against his son. The two engaged in warfare, with Kazuya sending a squad of JACK 6s to kill Heihachi, which stumbled across Heihachi fighting the rogue assassin, Akuma, who had been asked by Kazuya’s mother, Kazumi, to kill him and Heihachi years ago. To everyone’s surprise however, Heihachi wasn’t the only target…Akuma soon ambushed Kazuya afterwards, attacking him atop the Millenium Tower, with him being forced to resort to his Devil Form - with Heihachi using this opportunity to show the whole world Kazuya’s unnatural abilities, causing public opinion to sway away from him, and then being blasted by Heihachi’s SPACE LASER. Kazuya survived this, however, and used his devil blaster to crash the laser into the earth, before he and Heihachi made preparations for their final confrontation.

Within a volcano, the two fought brutally, Heihachi even hitting Kazuya out of his devil form - but ultimately, Kazuya proved to be the superior Mishima, hitting Heihachi in the chest with a deadly blow, one deadly enough to stop his heart, killing him once and for all. To ensure his father’s death, Kazuya tossed the body within the magma, before being ambushed by Akuma (AGAIN) in the volcano, with the winner of the fight as yet undetermined.

Six months later, however, the G Corporation was atop the world, Kazuya having won the battle over the Mishima Zaibatsu. He was confronted by his son in New York, but after defeating Jin in combat and destroying much of Manhattan, Kazuya made an announcement - he would be hosting a new, Eight King of Iron Fist tournament, however, this time, it would be to decide the fate of the world’s nations under his power. Kazuya’s intentions this time went much deeper than this, though. He wished to reawaken Azazel, who had been sealed inside of Zafina, and merge its power with his own, to truly become the strongest being alive and to have full control over the Devil Gene. Going to italy, where Zafina’s round was held, he released Azazel and battled him, ultimately defeating him and absorbing his power, granting Kazuya the power of the True Devil Gene, and becoming True Devil Kazuya. Going to Yakushima soon afterwards to ambush Jin, Kazuya easily defeated Reina and Claudio before being severely wounded in the shoulder, returning to G-Corp to recover. Returning afterwards for the war in Yakushima, Kazuya obliterated almost everyone within both armies, ultimately finding Jin soon afterwards.

Still, there was one problem that stood between him and the at this moment weakened Jin - Lars Alexanderson who sought to protect Jin from Kazuya no matter the cost. The two fought, and despite Lars carrying out Mishima’s insane stamina Kazuya held an edge and nearly won out, sending a laser at Lars which Jin saved him from, with Kazuya and Jin turning into their devil forms soon afterwards for one final fight for the fate of the world. Jin soon afterwards turned into his Angel form, which allowed him to purify himself and Kazuya of the Devil Gene, returning them to their base forms, their devil powers completely wiped away. The two fought once more, with Jin ultimately proving to be the victor, and Kazuya being found by Jun once more, unconscious and left with nothing. However, he has risen from lower - perhaps the King of Iron Fist will rise again, or perhaps he may be redeemed by the one person who could find a better nature within him. Time will only tell.

Skill & intelligence

Garou

Throughout his career as a hero killer, Garou has come up

against pretty much every foe you can think of.

He's slaughtered dozens of heroes across the story with

little more than his bare hands, particularly

thanks to his training from Bang, also known as the

S-Ranked hero Silver Fang. From Bang, he learned

Rock Smashing Water Stream Fist which focuses on a

versatile defense to counterattack with a brutal offense.

Conversely, he learned the style Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist,

which Bang's brother uses. This appears to be more offense based

and focused on quickly overwhelming opponents,

and Garou has even used them both at the same time to utilize

Cross Fang Dragon Slayer Fist; the perfect mix that only one

other has used before. He also was capable of mimicking

dogman fighting style after just fighting him once

Kazuya

Kazuya has proven time and time again he is one of, if not the, deadliest fighters in the world.

He has been trained all his life, in part by his father, Heihachi Mishima.

Not only does old horn hair have decades of his own experience

battling monsters and master martial artists,

but is just as much a match for even the Devil Gene thanks to his Mishima Fighting Style

For instance, the very first King of Iron Fist tournament already

had a large variety of martial artists all over the world:

King I - a pro wrestler who mastered grapples and strikes from

various famous wrestlers such as Undertaker's Tombstone Piledriver,

Kinnikuman's Kinniku Buster, Jake the Snake Roberts' DDT, etc;

Marshall Law, who despite of his silly appearance (especially later on in the series)

is a master of Jeet Kune Do - fighting style founded by Bruce Lee himself;

Yoshimitsu - a robot ninja who is mixing various sword stances and

fighting styles such as Ninjutsu, Kenjutsu and Battojutsu along with

own supernatural moves and stances.

The list of the bizarre and powerful martial artists spans across entirety of Tekken,

series of robots which analyzes and becomes stronger with

each new model causally gets beaten by Kazuya and even other cast over time,

bears, dinosaurs and kangaroos are trained in variety of martial arts and

come off as some of the competent foes, assassins who can spend days just fighting

with each other while using whatever weapons they have on hand,

exorcist who uses holy magic to exterminate demons,

an android with a chainsaw as hands and self exploding head,

a robot and mannequin both of whom are capable of

straight up copying fighting styles of all combatants of the tournament.

Tekken’s roster is simply so big that at this point it’s harder to point out

what kind of martial art Kazuya was not put against.

And that’s not counting a large variety of supernatural foes that exist in its universe,

whether it be an seeker for every martial artists - Ogre;

The bringers of world destruction - Azazel and Jinpachi Mishima;

Master of elderly deadly otherworld style Satsui No Hado - Akuma; And

most importantly on top of all that, his own son Jin Kazama - who not only was using

his family firm Mishima fighting style, while utilizing it with Kazama karate,

but also was a wearer of Devil Gene just like himself, making Kazuya more than an expert

when it comes to fighting everyone in the planet - including himself.

Forms

Garou

Red Garou

A state Garou achieved after staining his hair with blood in a fight with

S-Class hero Watchdog Man. Marks the start of his frightening evolution

Half Monster Garou

Garou evolved further after fighting opponents of the

Monster Association HQ achieving a form

where his body started to fuse with his ripped clothes.

In this state, Garou was granted greatly amplified physical

strength, speed and durability, in addition to his senses being upgraded too.

As a Half-Monster, Garou challenged Orochi and was defeated, which led to…

Spiral Garou

In his fight with Orochi, Garou was defeated, but that made him evolve even more into a Dragon Level threat that

was able to pose a serious threat to S-Class Heroes

such as Superalloy Darkshine who was eventually overwhelmed by Garou’s

enormous physical abilities and rapid growth.

Monster/Awakened Garou

Approaching the peak of his power, Garou finally became a real monster.

In this form, he was able to defeat his former mentor and S-Class Hero Bang,

in addition to besting another S-Class Hero, Flashy Flash,

and the Dragon Level Threat Monster Platinum Sperm.

Monster Garou (2nd form)

Garou evolved further from his initial Monster form,

and became even stronger and more menacing looking

after briefly fighting with Saitama.

Monster Garou (Final form)

The peak of Garou’s natural evolution.

Achieving a truly monstrous appearance,

Garou’s power grew EVEN more while fighting Saitama, and

caused an absurd amount of collateral damage in their fight

(even for the series’ standard).

Tried as he might, Garou still couldn't defeat the Caped Baldy,

but was definitely the greatest threat in the One Punch Man

universe up to that point,

becoming far stronger than any Hero or Monster in the series

save for a few exceptions.

Kazuya

Devil Kazuya

The Devil Gene allows Kazuya to go into his most iconic form,

greatly amplifying his physical strength, durability and speed,

in addition to granting him wings that allow him to fly,

the iconic laser beams shot from the eye on his forehead,

and many more miscellaneous abilities.

True Devil Kazuya

Kazuya’s most powerful form, achieved after he absorbed the power of Azazel.

In this state, Kazuya gets his power increased even further,

being able to effortlessly fight several Tekken heavy hitters

at the same time with very little effort.

True Devil Kazuya also gives Kazuya new energy based attacks.

Abilities

Garou

Rock Smashing Water Stream Fist

Rock Smashing Water Stream Fist is the first technique that Garou learned and

has been training with since he was young by his master Bang.

This technique as shown above is a defensive martial art

which allows one to understand the flow and force of their own body

and focus it into their attacks. This is done by first understanding the flow of

energy in the currents of raging currents and tidal surges

which is what allows one to recreate this in one’s own body.

Genos has even stated this martial art is the ultimate mix of offense and defense.

By understanding the flow of energy,

Garou is capable of redirecting the energy of

one's attacks back at them with twice as much power.

Through this power he also targets one joints and vital spots

which incapacitate physical function

Watchdog Man Technique

While not much is known about his fighting style we do know from Garou

that it is more beast-like than it is human-like.

This makes his movements a lot more agile and quick.

Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist

The Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist is a technique that

Garou was able to copy from Bangs brother, Bomb.

This technique is extremely deadly and is more of an offensive fighting style.

It seemingly works by manipulating the air around the user,

creating sharp whirlwind-like pressure to slice the target;

however, nothing has been confirmed.

Cross Fang Dragon Slayer Fist

The Cross Fang Dragon Slayer Fist at its core is the

combination of the Rock Smashing Water Stream Fist and Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist.

While Bang not Bomb could do it by themselves,

needing each other to use it, Garou was able to learn how to do it on his own.

He does this by using Rock Smashing Water Stream Fist in the left hand

and Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist in the right hand.

Exploding Heart Release Fist

A technique garou learn from reading it once

As the name implies it caused one's heart to

pulse explosively with impact of your punches

which allows one to surpass someone body limits

Monster Calamity God Slayer Fist

The Monster Calamity God Slayer Fist is a martial art that Garou created.

It is made with a combination of every martial art Garou has ever learned,

making one unified martial art.

Kazuya

Mishima Flying

With this technique he can hit his opponent with a flying kick.

Devil Fist

He combines his regular strength with his Demon strength

for a more effective punch.

Mishima Lightning

Basically is lightning that comes from the person ki.

Rage Drive

With this he can make Heaven's Door stronger.

Heaven's Door

It's basically him turning into his Demon form to fly to the end

and then throw his opponents into the ground.

Flight

he do be flying

Rage Art

His Rage Art makes his attacks slightly more lethal.

Final Blaster

It's like his normal laser, but this time he combines alot

of lasers together to make a more effective attack

Spinning Demon

He spin and then punch you

Super Speed

In his Demon form he has shown to have some form of super speed.

Increase Strength

He can make himself stronger for specific attacks.

Lasers

He can shoot lasers out of his head to attack opponents,

he can do this in his base form as well.

Scaling

Garou

Tatsumaki

While Garou hasn’t gotten into a direct confrontation with Tatsumaki, we can at least argue they are comparable due to the fact that Garou should be comparable to the likes of Orochi and Psykos, who fused to fight Tatsumaki. As a result, we can argue Garou downscaling from these feats.

  • Can stop Boros’ Bullets from destroying to city and launch them back to his ship and damage it

    • For reference Boros’ ship can tank blasts from Saitama and Boros himself whereas Tatsumaki was able to damage it

  • She and Psykorochi made a storm (8.25 gigatons -200 gigatons for each)

  • Tatsumaki throw a spear (70.2 gigatons)

  • Can move Earth into another solar system (640 zettatons-4 yottatons)

Psykos/Orochi

Psykos and Orochi are some of the strongest monsters we have ever seen in OPM and the leaders of the Monster Association. However, Garou should reasonably scale to them given the fact that he has fought Orochi and was able to take blows from him within one of his weaker forms. He has been stated by ONE to be a “Near-Perfect Monster” which should make him comparable to the two at his max.

Genos

Garou was able to keep up and fight off Genos while weakened after fighting against the group of Class A heroes. Garou has also fought and contended with similar or stronger characters such as while like Bang, Sage Centipede, and Platinum Sperm.

Boros

While Garou has never fought or interacted with Boros, it’s not completely unreasonable to think they scale. Both were able to kind of keep up with Saitama to a similar extent as well as the fact that ONE stated that Monster Garou vs Boros would be a close fight, meaning it’s reasonable to argue Garou scaling to Boros at his peak.

Other heroes

Garou is capable of keeping up, fighting, and even defeating many different heroes, including some of the top heroes like Tanktop Master, Bang, and Super Alloy Darkshine. He has also kept up with monsters who have defeated heroes such as when he fought Platinum Sperm and Flashy Flash at the same time or when he killed Sage Centipede who defeated Metal Bat.

Other monsters

Garou is consistently capable of keeping up and fighting off some of the strongest monsters in the series. This is shown when he defeated Sage Centipede and Platinum Sperm, two of the strongest Cadre’s in the Monster Association. He also has defeated the likes of Fuhrer Ugly and kept up with Evil Natural Water.

Kazuya

Mishimas

The Mishima blood feud is the main pillar of the Tekken series, so naturally the Mishimas have fought each other on numerous occasions. Most notably, Kazuya defeated his father Heihachi, and of course fought his son Jin multiple times, who defeated Jinpachi, granting a pretty clear scaling chain.

Jack series

Kazuya, as one of the most powerful characters in the verse, should easily be superior to the Jack robot series,

as even Heihachi was able to defeat waves of Jack-4s and tank their self-destructions, alongside Kazuya. Later in Tekken 8, the entire cast fights a large battle which involves most named characters fighting Kazuya’s army,

which has Jack-8s, the most advanced Jack yet, making upscaling pretty clear cut.

Jin Kazama

As previously mentioned, Jin and Kazuya have fought a lot. And we mean a lot. In the climax fight of Tekken 8, True Devil Kazuya fights Angel Jin in a fairly even fight, meaning Kazuya at his best is just as strong as Jin at his best, this scaling to all of his feats.

Other fighters

As of Tekken 8, Kazuya is the top tier of the verse. While some characters such as Jin and Reina could potentially beat him. At the moment, Kazuya alone is the strongest character in Tekken.

Weaknesses

Garou

Garou may be strong, but even he has limits. if there's an opponent with an attack so strong, Garou won't be able to absorb it or even deflect it. He's also prone to prolonging fights in order to become stronger, and underestimating opponents that seem weaker than him.(Yes that about it)

Kazuya

Kazuya is obviously very hard to match foe, given the solid amount of experience, skill and tenacity he got inside himself even without the devil gene. But he obviously isn’t without major flaws in his character and at some point fighting style. Starting from something more natural is that devil gene users, Kazuya included, are notably weak to holy related attacks, Archers of Sirius like Claudio and Jin Kazama himself have pretty much exploited this weakness in his latest fight when he was at his True Devil form. It’s fairly consistent as in previous Tekken games, there was an Angel who were basically a countermeasure to The Devil, while in Claudio’s Tekken 8 ending, he managed to kill Azazel via same move he used against Kazuya in the actual story, should’ve Kazuya not barely dodge the arrow, he might would’ve died in the middle of T8 story.  In terms of fighting style, it demands for strong defense and execution in a consistent manner, without which he can be easily punished & pressured to the point of it being hard for him to pull his techniques off.

Before The Verdict

Is True Devil Kazuya standard?

So, some people have said that Kazuya’s True Devil form is non-standard, as it requires him to absorb Azazel and as such isn’t something he’d just have on hand. Is this true?

No, not really.

While yes, Kazuya did need to absorb Azazel to attain the form, from that point forward for the rest of the story of Tekken 8, he had the form without issue, and he retained it until his Devil form was stripped from him. There’s no real reason to not give a peak Kazuya the form, and it doesn’t require outside help once he already had it - he had it for over half of Tekken 8 at his prime. Overall, we think True Devil Kazuya is indeed standard, and it will be factored into the verdict.

In terms of stats, both are some of the top tiers of their universes, so both Kazuya and Garou should scale to a majority of the best feats within One Punch Man and Tekken respectively. Most of the feats within their series don’t really mean much when compared to the top tier feats, so let’s get into those feats! In terms of power, the best feat Tekken has to offer is Devil Jin defacing the earth, which gets, at maximum highball 120 exatons of TNT, aka Moon level in power. Pretty impressive, however Garou has Kazuya beat in this regard, due to scaling to Orochi, who gets 170 exatons of TNT. Not a huge advantage, but a notable one regardless, albeit both should upscale these feats - the feat from Kazuya was done by Devil Jin, who was lesser to Angel Jin and True Devil Kazuya, and Garou was comparable to Orochi in a lower form, meaning AP could be argued to even out here.. However, this gap can be further expanded should we give him scaling to Tatsumaki. Admittedly, Tatsumaki scaling could be seen as dubious, as the only scaling chain is via both scaling to Orochi, but at the very least he should downscale seeing as how one of his earlier Monster forms was comparable to Orochi, and Garou has grown a lot since then - if you do that, he should compare to Tatsumaki being able to move the planet, which gets in the Large Planet range. With this in mind, it’d go from Garou having a slight AP advantage to absolutely AP stomping Kazuya, which couldn’t be matched by upscaling. So, Garou takes AP either end, though with lower ends you could argue it’s relative enough to where Kazuya matches. Next, let’s talk speed. Kazuya’s best feat is his lasers knocking down an orbital satellite, netting him a result of 0.2c. Pretty good! Garou should be comparable to Atomic Samurai, who has a 4c feat, making him 20 times faster then Kazuya, making him safely blitz.

So, overall, with lower ends AP is likely comparable, with higher ends Garou is AP stomping, and no matter what Garou is blitzing Kazuya. Overall, Garou should safely take stats.

Abilities and Arsenal

Abilities wise, both have a decent amount. First, their martial arts styles - Garou’s is definitely a lot better then Kazuya’s, as he has a lot more styles he’s mastered, and while the Mishima style has a lot of techniques, Garou’s are designed to hunt down people with more extraordinary abilities, while Kazuya… does not have that going for him. Admittedly. Kazuya’s Devil form gives him an edge here, as Garou never could use his Monster form in the same way Kazuya could with his Devil and True Devil forms… however, this leads to Garou’s best advantage in this category.

Garou’s accelerated development is frankly, absurd. He’s been able to adapt to other fighting styles and counter them mid-fight, and has been able to develop resistances to abilities within that time, a level beyond anything within this category Kazuya has shown. And neither really have a ton of abilities besides general energy beams (albeit Kazuya’s are a lot more impressive in this area, since they’re able to go to space), flight, and their martial arts, but Garou’s adaptation should lend him this category as well, making it so that way even if AP was close, he’d eventually overtake Kazuya within AP.

Tertiary Factors

Finally, for tertiary factors, it evens out a bit. In terms of skill, surprise, Garou has it in the bag. He’s a martial arts prodigy and has mastered several in his time, in addition to winning tournaments - while Kazuya has done much of the same, martial arts in One Punch Man are generally more ridiculous and having multiple at his disposal is very helpful for lending Garou an edge in this category, especially given that Garou has also seen a much wider range of opponents in comparison to Kazuya, who hasn’t seen anyone quite like Garou in his time besides… well, maybe Jin. …who he lost to, eventually. However, Kazuya should easily take a huge edge in experience. While Garou has some, Kazuya’s been fighting for years on end, and has a much greater understanding of his abilities and has fought for far, far longer then Garou has. Kazuya’s also generally a lot smarter then Garou, too, as he’s shown a lot of cunning throughout his life and career, while Garou is …not really a thinker outside of combat. So, Garou takes skill, and Kazuya takes intelligence and experience.

Conclusion

garou

Advantages

  • Likely even in AP with lower ends, and much stronger with higher ends

  • Much faster

  • More skilled

  • Generally better abilities

  • Adaptation is absurd

kazuya

Disadvantages

  • Much less experienced

  • Not quite as smart

  • Worse range

  • That fuckin haircut

Advantages

  • Matches AP with lower ends for Garou…

  •  Far more experienced

  • Better ranged attacks

  • Smarter

  • KAZUYA MISHIMA KILL HIM!

Disadvantages

  • …but if given Tatsumaki scaling, Garou absolutely AP stomps

  • Much slower

  • Generally less versatile

  • Less skilled

  • Daddy Issues (Skill issue tbh)

Overall, Garou has everything he needs to take a win here. He takes stats by most metrics, has generally better abilities, and is a lot more skilled. Kazuya could eek out a win through some arguments, admittedly, but Garou’s simply way, way more likely to win this bout more often then not. Devils never cry, until the day they’re hunted to extinction.

The winner is Garou.
